Since we’ve been following 90% vegan/vegetarian diet, I have been using a lot of chick peas for substitutions. I’m finding they are really versatile. I have always liked my tuna fish, so I thought, why not try to make a vegan version? So I came up with this tuna recipe using chick peas. I added kelp to give it that “fish” flavor. I like onions and celery in my tuna, so doesn’t Spiro, so that’s what I added, but you can add whatever you want. I know some folks like dill too, so play around with what you like. It’s very easy to make and it really does taste like tuna. At least the white albacore kind, which has a very mild flavor. Let me know what you think.
- 1 can of chic peas, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 2 stalks celery, cleaned and chopped
- 1/4 cup veganaise
- 1 sheet of kelp, crushed finely
- salt and pepper to taste
Mash the chic peas with a potato masher to the consistency you like.
Mix everything together.
That’s it, just as easy as making regular tuna.
Enjoy and let me know if you try it.
